Attorney Lester Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual’ and Founder and CEO of Employment Screening Resources® (ESR), will present two sessions about background checks at the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) 2013 Annual Conference & Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Rosen will present ‘International Background Checks: Global Due Diligence and Legal Compliance’ on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 and ‘The Top Ten Trends for Background Checks in 2013 – What Every Employer Needs to Know’ on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. For more information about the SHRM 2013 Annual Conference & Exposition, which runs from June 16 to 19, 2013, visit http://annual.shrm.org/.
In his two sessions, Rosen – a nationally recognized safe hiring expert and frequent speaker on due diligence issues as part of the ‘ESR Speaks’ training program – will educate HR professionals about background checks for employment:
- ‘International Background Checks: Global Due Diligence and Legal Compliance’ – 06/18/2013 4:00 PM – 05:15 PM: This session will introduce HR professionals to international background checks, including the legal, practical, and cultural challenges faced when obtaining information outside of the United States. Among the topics covered are international criminal records, terrorist databases, privacy issues, and whether background checks are needed on applicants with a visa. With the mobility of workers across international borders it is no longer adequate to conduct background checks just in the U.S. and due diligence now requires an understanding of international background checks. - ‘The Top Ten Trends for Background Checks in 2013 – What Every Employer Needs to Know’ – 06/19/2013 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM: This session will help HR professionals avoid bad hires by keeping current on trends, best practices, and legal compliance affecting background checks and due diligence in hiring. The session will review the top 10 background check trends including the use of social networking sites for screening, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) approach to the use of criminal records and credit reports, the “Ban the Box” movement to omit questions about criminal history on applications, resume fraud, privacy, and off shoring of personal data.
