To help Human Resources professionals maintain global compliance, Attorney Lester Rosen, CEO of Employment Screening Resources (ESR), will present a webinar with TrainHR entitled ‘International Background Checks: Global Due Diligence and Legal Compliance’ on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM EST/10:00 AM PST.
“With the mobility of workers across international borders it is no longer adequate to conduct background checks just in the United States,” says Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual.’ “In addition, international background checks are needed on an increasing number of workers who have spent part of their careers abroad.”
The webinar will introduce employers to international background checks and the legal, practical, and cultural challenges employers face when obtaining information outside of the United States. Among the topics covered are international terrorist databases and whether visa background checks are needed. Areas covered include:
- Learn why international background checks are becoming an important tool for employers.
- Understand the tools that are available and the limitations to international background checks including international criminal records.
- Learn the legal and privacy aspects of checking international credentials including education and employment.
With business going global, U.S. firms are having to staff up offices internationally as well. The number of countries from which employers seek international background checks on applicants is expansive, and includes India, China, Philippines, France, Germany, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Japan, Canada, among others.
Employers have long recognized that conducting due diligence on new hires – including international background checks –is a mission critical task. Employers can be the subject of negligent hiring lawsuits if they hire someone that they should have known, through the exercise of due diligence, was dangerous, unfit, or unqualified.
Rosen also authored a module titled “Criminal History Screening of Global Job Applicants: Hidden Dangers Employers Should Know” that is included in Volume 3 of the Global HR Practitioner Handbook that focuses on topics that global HR professionals must understand. Both are available online from the Global Immersion Press.
Rosen is a frequent presenter nationwide on employment screening and safe hiring issues. He was the chairperson of the steering committee that founded the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) a professional trade organization for the screening industry, and served as the first co-chairman in 2004.
Rosen founded Employment Screening Resources (ESR), a national background screening company located in the San Francisco, California area, in 1997. ESR is an accredited by the NAPBS and has completed a SOC 2 audit report for ensuring data security. For more information about ESR, visit http://www.esrcheck.com.
